I LOVE history that focuses on the idea of a living past.
Fascinating, it totally changed my perception and understanding of medieval England. Though I was also thinking about Doomsday by Connie Willis.

A great look at a time period I wasn't super familiar with. Written pretty well and makes clear what is based in evidence and what in assumption which is sometimes not clear in other books of the genre.
A delight! I got this partly as a reference for use in writing fiction, and it more than satisfies for that purpose, but beyond that it's entertaining, well organized, and often funny. The Middle Ages were a more complicated and interesting period than people sometimes think, and this book does a good job of demonstrating that. This would be great as a supplement for a high-school or college history course, too.

What an inventive way to write about the 14th Century in England! I loved the format and humor that was used to discuss all kinds of topics of medieval life!
