I really wanted to like this book. It got me hooked within the first few pages. I really liked the concept of the 'gets' but that could have just been left out. It did not get developed in the story. This was definitely a horror book as many times I was scared out of my mind with the unknowns and vastness of what we don't know about the depths of the ocean. That is what kept me reading.

As I turn the final page of THE DEEP, I feel hollowed out.
Every moment of the book simmers with dread and fear of the unknown. Every page takes you deeper into terror and anxiety. Like the proverbial frog in boiling water, it's far too late when realization sets in. THE DEEP drags you down into the depths of its brutal science and body horror, consuming you slowly with characters you desperately dare to root for.
Damn good horror.

Hated this book. The story was boring. Too much detail, too many flashbacks, so much nonsense. Someone on Tik Tok described it as a thin premise with the sole intention to allow the author to say fucked up things (child molestation, incest, missing children, etc). Probably done with Nick Cutter. Have not been impressed with his writing thus far.
