This was a easy and quick read with very interesting premise, but I there was so many missed opportunities in this book.
The story: this girl is a journalist and she got awarded by a radio show this "round the world" trip with someone that the presenter would choose from her phon. The person that it was picked up was this guy that she flirted one night, gave her his phone number and she never called again. Now both of them will go to this amazing and awkward trip together.
This had everything to be like the Unhoneymooners and be a fun and light read, but there were pretty heavy topics that were discussed that made the book turn into more serious and, the comedy relief that the author tried to include, ended up not hitting the mark.
Themes that were discussed included abortion, cyberbullying, parental pressure and lack of support, cyber privacy, toxic boss among others.
That aside, I think the author could have explored so much more the destinations that were included in the trip. You can barely visualize the city because the narrative pass through it in such a rushed way. The only location that I think it was slightly more explored was Tokyo. I really thought it was a lost opportunity to put the characters in great different situations and have a some more extended interactions in each location.
Also, she missed SO MUCH the opportunity to build more angst. At the beggining we had this impression that the guy tried to pursue the girl and she rejected him. That was not explored and everything sounded like a misunderstanding.
Anyway.. basically this book missed a lot of interesting opportunities and tried to be a romcom but over packed with serious topics that unbalanced the narrative.

Easy fun read, really feel like you’re travelling with them.

It just felt repetitive- like something I had already read without anything unique going for it.
