A masterpiece.
What if anything like this ever happens?
This type of books exists to prompt us to think about it, to avoid futures like this.
In this case, the dystopian future in this books hits too close to home.
Anyone familiar with Argentina's past history about the military dictatorship in the 70s and 80s will understand, especially if you've read "Never Again" (Nunca Más). Everything is so vividly written, it gave me the chills, made me sick, just as the first time I found out about what was going on in my country at that time.
A lot of you would read this book and say "well, it's highly improbable that something like this can occur today in 2018".
This book came in the eighties and Atwood herself said some parts of it (e.g., quoting Wikipedia: [...]"Among the "disappeared" were pregnant women, who were kept alive until giving birth under often primitive circumstances in the secret prisons. The infants were generally illegally adopted by military or political families affiliated with the administration, and the mothers were generally killed. Thousands of detainees were drugged, loaded into aircraft, stripped naked and then thrown into the Rio de la Plata or the Atlantic Ocean to drown in what became known as "death flights."") were based off Argentinian story.
This being said, I don't think I could ever stomach the movie or series.
Thank you Margaret Atwood. The world needs to remember so this type of things never repeats.
Nunca más
