predictable ending, subpar character development, but the atmosphere and world building was pretty good

i like how unreliable the narrator is, fear combing through their thoughts, and muddling them.

im new to king's universe but i hope this fog is present or more explained in a book i read in the future

I liked this one a lot. A very atmospheric story about the mysterious "Springheel Jack", a killer who attacks women under the cover of fog at New Sharon College. This definitely felt more like the King I'm used to than the first two stories I read for my King readthrough. The ending felt a little telegraphed to me, but outside of that this was a good one.

Overall, this was a really well-made adaptation of the short story. The biggest flaw of this story is that I did get confused at some parts in the brief scenes jumping from the 60s and 70s (student to lecturer). Still, the sound effects and music really added to the audiobook experience, and it kept me on edge until the final push to the end of the story.

This is a review for the short story, not the podcast.

This short story is probably my favorite from Night Shift. It is brief, extremely creepy, and has a great ending. I read it right before bed and dreamed about it that night, a sign that the story was really creeping me out. I love the atmosphere King is able to create though this 10-page story about a serial killer loose on a college campus. It's a simple story, but brutally effective.

While I enjoyed this audiobook, I will say that there were a few things that I didn't like mainly from the podcast itself.

I wish that there was some sort of 'announcement' during the narrations somewhere when there's a time change. I got so confused at certain points because it would be hopping between the 60's and the 70's and Henry would go from being a student to being a lecturer. The podcast itself also had way too many ads in between and it was jarring to listen to at times when they cut off before an intense scene. I've sat through ads before because podcasts sometimes do a decent job of integrating the story with the ads so it's not an impossible thing to do.

I will say though that I wasn't particularly attached to any of the characters. Maybe it had to do with the fact that it was a short story or maybe the audiobook version didn't really do the characters justice? The story was gripping though to the point that I wanted to finish it so that I would know who the killer was.
