I’m finding myself becoming interested in Stephen King’s process, and I feel like I’ve learned a bit reading these stories. This is a story kind of like The Boogeyman in how he’s taken a creature/concept from folklore and put it in modern context, made it into flesh. Springheeled Jack is an old Victorian kind of Penny Dreadful creature, and they mention Jack the Ripper too. In a funny way this reminds me of the Star Trek episode where the spirit of Jack the Ripper comes back and possesses Scotty to kill on its behalf, leaving no memory or trace. It’s a haunting idea for sure, and I kind of wish it had been the focus of the story, instead of just a creepy button at the end.

To be completely honest, I listened to this audiobook to catch up on my Goodreads goal. I was pleasantly surprised with this short little tale.
Life on any college campus can be peculiar on a normal day, but this particular campus that King draws up is haunted by a serial killer called "Springheel Jack." The campus brings what's called a "strawberry spring", basically a "fake" spring. This spring brings along a thick fog, and this fog brings forth Springheel Jack. Every time the fog falls upon the campus, someone is killed.
I enjoyed it. I did a little research on the name Springheeled Jack and found information on an entity from English Folklore during the Victorian period with that exact name. You can google this further for yourself if it intrigues you.
