I found this novel both captivating and irritating, I loved the atmosphere and visual nature of the writing. The telling of the story through conversation and retelling was ingenious and made it feel like I was being told the story first hand. In the beginning it was difficult to understand the flow of the novel and the setting, however after a while I figured out the setting and characters and their relationships to each other (with the help of googling a family tree of the characters). I also found it hard to like any of the characters, every single one was infuriating and awful. Who was the protagonist supposed to be?

I’ve read half the book on audio and it’s been a struggle. I’m bored and a lot of the time I didn’t really understand what was going on due to the language style. It’s a shame, but this classic is not for me.
