Loved the art, but the story was too short, and I hated the long monologue that made up the bulk of the text. The main character was pretty annoying, and even as a devout religious person myself, I find his incessant, overly dramatic prayer to be grating on my nerves. He just was not interesting. He seemed too one dimensional, and even now as I am typing this review, I have a hard time remembering his name.

Forgettable story, lack of any interesting characters, and a questionable motive for the villain all add up to a pretty disappointing tale.

The only thing rescuing this book from being completely awful is the art by Mignola. His art style works great with the grittiness of the Alien universe. The art alone earns the stars for this book.

I would recommend this to people who love Mignola's style. If you don't, then this book is an absolute waste of time.

Mignola art on an Aliens story? SOLD. It helps that the story's pretty all right, too.

This single-issue short story has been on my "to-read-later" list for a little while now but i finally got my hands on a copy yesterday.

Now. WHAT A COMIC THIS IS. I knew it would be good when i saw that it was written by Gibbons (who drew for Watchmen) and drawn by Mignola (creator of Hellboy), who are both two of my favorite voices in the comic industry. This issue is syringe-injected with incredible writing equally incredible panels from the start.

It's short, but sweet. Rather than focusing on a story about a xenomorph stalking the skeleton crew of a star freighter, this is about a secret mission to relocate a small populus of the monster's to a planet to start a breeding ground, should the military need them as some kind of evil bio weapon. In true Alien fashion, things always go south and the ship crash lands on the planet, killing all of its crew but 3, and stranding them. The story is seen through the eyes of a Christian, who's monologue is a prayer to God, asking for strength, courage, and forgiveness for the things he sees and is forced to do. I personally liked that perspective, it was refreshing to see a Christian written in secular culture who wasn't intrepreted as a snobby, elitist.

I highly recommend this issue. It grapples with the human psyche under duress, as well as from the perspective of one with the faith, and it also has some gnarly lookin Xenomorphs.

Mignola's art was great as always but the story wasn't all there for me. Still worth a read.

Mignola doing Alien art alone would make this perfect for me, but add to that Gibbons writing about the entire ordeal in faith language and it puts it over the top.
