Really enjoyed this well written and fast moving story. Although there are a bunch of characters introduced, they're well fleshed out and easily distinguishable. I'm really looking forward to getting further into this series. Hope Jane Yellowrock stays as strong, independent, and just as competent throughout!

I'd recommend this series for fans of Patricia Brigg's Mercy Thompson series. Lots of similarities between them.

There really wasn't anything wrong with this book. I went into it with really really low expectations, but it was actually fairly enjoyable. I liked that there wasn't some lame love interest that distracted. I liked most of the vampire lore, though rich southern vampires get really old really fast. I did like the mystery and even Jane was a pretty likable protagonist. The only thing I didn't like was that damn Beast POV, just because I hate all those random sentence fragments and disjointed text. It really didn't work for me.

I don't really read vampire books anymore, but when I do, they should be like this. We are not, at least in any obvious way, heading towards gooey eyed feelings and graphic sex with the vampires. Our heroine has lots of weapons, a smart ass mouth... and an internal dialog with a mountain lion. They're not my new favorite urban fantasy series (because vampires, and not much of a supporting cast, and a few other minor things) but I am likely to catch up on the whole series, and try to make them last.
