GREAT historical spec fiction, wonderful writing. I don't usually do zombie stuff but this book is like a great story that happens to have zombies. Lovable and hatable characters, tense moments, little thrills of romance, realistic if tragic details. Really has it all.

The concept of a zombie apocalypse during the Civil War is so interesting, and the author executed it so well! I loved the characters- Jane is such a powerful and headstrong protagonist and it was so fun to be in her head as she makes a path for herself in this corrupt world. I was expecting much more action to take place, but to me, this book was less about fighting zombies and more about the politics of this new world.
