Reign of Stars and Fire is the eighth book of the Broken Kingdoms series and marks the second book of the duology that follows the second trilogy. It follows Ari and Saga in the southern kingdom. This book contains themes of loyalty, working together and the power of love to overcome darkness. Tropes include touch her and die, found family, hidden identities and prophecies. This is a dark fantasy (darker than the prior books) so please check the content warnings.

The Lovely: I loved the plot and tensioning of this book. A lot happened and the ending wasn’t what I expected. There is more of a focus in this book on the plot and adventure, rather than the characters and their relationship.

The Meh: I’m meh on the main characters and their relationship. I liked that we had some of the prior characters back in this book - especially the royals and their families. There was a heavy focus on Callisto in this book - which was a bit weird given this book was part of Ari and Saga’s duology. I think some of that was it set up for the final book.

Rating: 4/5 Stars 2/5 spicy flames

Recommendation: This duology was not my favorite sub-series of the Broken Kingdoms series. I just never really connected with Ari and Saga and had trouble getting invested in their relationship. I am excited to slide into the next, and final, book of the series. If you like an interesting story that combines a strong plot with adventure and romance in a fantasy world, I think you would like this book.

This entire series has been a huge surprise. Great characters and story that continues to develop. I think the writing is getting better as the books go on too. I loved this installment of Ari and Saga. I have been looking forward to Ari’s story since we first met him in the first trilogy and this did not disappoint. We learn a lot more about the world and the events that has brought all our characters together in the first place and I’m loving it. I can’t wait for the final book.

I really enjoy this series, however half of this book the fmc and mmc were separated and I think it was just a bit slow for my liking. This one didn’t draw me in as much as the other books have.

So many questions answered in this book, and so many connections made that really showcase how well thought out this series was. Felt so many emotions while reading, I’m not ready for the series to end
