There was a decent amount of character development in this story. We also get a lot of background into Saga's past.
Surprisingly, we get additional information on Calista and Ari also. Leaves on a cliffhanger which gets a partial resolution in the epilogue.

Ari and Saga are separated at the beginning of the book and parts of the band need to get back together to find a way to wake Ari up. During the journey many questions are posed and some of them are answered.

This book/phase in the series is distinctly different than the others. In the place of open war and heists is fate and puzzles. New(ish) characters are in the spotlight while older characters still have significant roles.

There was a lot of dealing with the repercussions of the bad guy. We get a hearty dose of what he is capable of and all the awful things he is doing that make us hate him.

I love Ari and Sagas relationship. Ari might be my favorite MMC of the series (sorry Kase). He is loyal and apprehensive of his worthiness and hides behind cockiness and arrogance but drops all his masks for Saga. What she’s left with is a man who is endlessly devoted to her.

The fire and chemistry between the characters is still there. A few of the spicy scenes feel a bit forced but are still interesting and enjoyable.

Twisty turns, The band is back together again, The whole picture becomes more clear, Dream spice, Unambiguously evil bad guy, Vikings/Fae

“Is this the part where it begins?”
“Where what begins?” Forbi looked over her shoulder, a vicious smirk on her lips. “The end.”

  • Dual narration
  • Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
  • You almost need to read/listen to this book twice catch everything that happens. Ari and saga’s two books move fast and smack you with a ton of prophesy, lore, new curses, battle, and loss. Ari and saga both have journeys of growth as they’re both flung toward towards their fate. Ready or not it’s there to sucker punch them.
  • Thank goodness the books have a list of names and who they are at the beginning because good lord it’s a lot of Characters. It can’t be helped as each kingdom has its own set of royals and important side characters, and they all help each other so they all intermingle and cross over as war calls to them.
  • The end hurtles you 10 years into the future to prepare for the final battle, and Calista’s story. The 4th crown.
  • Ari’s and Saga’s books talk a lot about SA. The other books elude to it once in a while, but these two books being it up often as it is a part of saga’s past and trauma. I appreciated that it wasn’t swept  under the rug and she wasn’t magically cured. Discussions of SA are brought up with an important side character when things happened (nothing on page, everyone is in the dark, including the reader) and side characters are fierce, protective, and loving.  I liked how the characters maneuvered that potential situation.
