(Disclaimer: I received this book from the author. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

Left in the trauma of the first book, The Darkest Stars explores the monsters around us and within us. It can be our tendency to try to run from the bad memories, the past, but with Calay going further than ever before she will ask us how we move forwards. We're surrounded by monsters in plan sight, in shadowed hallways, and in the stars. We can think we know what love is, but when we begin to control, to know what they know and don't, then that isn't love.

~ It was as if Calay was cursed. Destined to be alone because of the very essence of who she was.~

I was so honored to be apart of the launch team again for Kristy and this heart-pounding series. I loved the first book in The Broken Stars series and I loved this one as well. It’s got all the things that make it a good sci-fi/adult fiction series.

Enemies to lovers? ✅
Cosmic horror? ✅
Morally grey characters? ✅

I said it in my review for the first book and I’m going to say it again here: Calay is the strong female lead I have always wanted. She’s just so REAL. She’s not hopelessly in love and swooning all of the time, she’s not begging to constantly be saved by others. She’s struggling. Her emotions are RAW and she’s confused. She feels things the way I imagine any real, flesh & blood person would feel while going through all of the shit that she goes through.

A solid 10/10 character for me. I love her so much.
