This was a really cute middle grade graphic novel! I loved the Batman cameo and the female lead focus. It centers on playing to strengths and the value of teamwork, which is an important message for a middle grade. The art work is gorgeous and I like how it shows that the grass isn't always greener on the other side, everybody has something they're dealing with.

Cute, the art was good, and the characters were fun. A solid quick read.

A lot of fun! Would have liked to see some resolution of Piper’s family situation but there were a few other things left open-ended that make me think that this might (fingers crossed) turn into a series!

3.5 rounded up. The story of two girls who are on different sides of practically everything. Piper is super strong, popular, being taken care of by her extended family while her parents are off on a science expedition, and moonlighting as a superhero. Sloane is super smart, a pariah based on her family's name with only her mother taking care of her, and secretly a supervillain to help pay their bills. When a heist goes wrong and the two get into a literal mix up, they have to learn to balance each other out.

This skews very young, the earliest side of middle grade. The art by Maca Gil is bright and expressive, easily comparing it to cartoon animation. The writing tackles more than superheroics, where the relationship between the two girls and their circumstances are the forefront and the super powers are mostly a last act wrap up. This is good, because the story is very streamlined, coming in at 156 pages, so focusing on the character interactions rather than action spreads makes for a better story. This is great for kids who want to finish a book in one sitting, but does result in some easily resolved conflicts. It's also a perfect novel to give to a child who is interest in superheroes but doesn't want the complication of wading into DC's universe proper. A fun, breezy read.

This was a good J/YA comic. It’s set in the DC world but only just. You hear some name drops of familiar characters and places but mostly the story stands on its own. It was cute and enjoyable.

My 9 yo finally wants to experience books with me. We're both big fans of superheros/comic books, so I find it appropriate that this is the first one she wants me to read. The book also features my favorite (BATMAN), so I'm here for it.
Also the illustrations are soooo cute (insert childish squeal and giggle here).
***
Sloane and Piper are ambitious teenagers with real teenage struggles-oh and they both wander the streets at night with a secret identity and ambitions. They both live in different parts of Gotham-Piper in suburbia with her grandma and uncle, Sloane in a not-so-great apartment complex with her sick mom.
Sloane is tasked with stealing some technology for a crime lord she's connected too in a few ways. Piper is bound to protect it as one of her parents inventions. In one messy fight, they switch bodies and learn a lot about each other and their own personal faults.
Anti/Hero is a super cute middle grade graphic novel. I loved it beginning to end. The illustrations (as mentioned above) are so fun and colorful. The story is a great take on the superhero trope with fantasy elements. Also Sloane and Piper are an actual delight in their dialogue and interactions. I really wish there were more graphic novels like this one for kids, especially young girls.
Super fun ride with such great thoughts. Loved it and would recommend to all (even if you are 9 or 100).

Think I saw this in a virtual conference about middle grade books -- new authors, new illustrator, new characters (well, except that one cameo) -- I'm so glad I heard about this book! It was really great, as a girl power read, as a you-choose-the-person-you-want-to-be read, and as a quick kid-friendly superhero graphic read. Themes old enough for late middle school, but nothing I wouldn't recommend to even high-reading 3rd graders. I hope they do many many more.
