Beautifully written, with some astute observations about loneliness not often talked about (or at least discussed here in a unique, compelling way). The protagonist was incredibly flawed and yet, despite my frustrations, I wanted to keep reading. As an elementary school teacher, I must say I did find the premise very problematic and acutely uncomfortable. This is one of those cases where I give a high rating to a book because the words are lovely, not because I agree with everything written. I definitely want to read something else by this author.

Oddly moving, romantically heartbreaking.

1.5 Was really not into the romance between a 20-30 something and a teenager. Main character (librarian) was also very unlikeable.

" . . . a library is a gorgeous language that you will never speak fluently. You will try every day of your life." p. 84. Quirky, endearing story of an unlikely love affair.

It took me so long to read that I could never have loved it.

Beautiful and sad and strange and profound. Reads like poetry. I'll be thinking about this book for a long time.

While this book was really well written, the narrator was so unlikable (for me) that a majority of the story just dragged terribly. Plus, the "romance" was just a little too odd and yet somehow predictable for my taste. I only rated as highly as I did because I enjoy the author's writing style.
