That was a big cry. It was so good. I didn’t want to put it down. Rounding up to 5 stars. Oh and there was a twist?? I kind of thought I had it
the villain
all figured out but she really got me!

I knew nothing about the Chinese folk legend going into it, but seems like maybe it’s a danmei take on the story? Who knows but I loved it. I can’t stop crying.

First book I've read in a while, so I can say it's excellent for breaking out of a reading slump. But the characters weren't overly compelling and there were a few inaccuracies that bothered me for no good reason. It's worth a read, just didn't wow me.

I did enjoy this book, I'm a fiend for danmei and an inspired one convinced me to read it. I enjoyed the concept of the re-telling. However, I had a few qualms. The beginning felt rushed. I think drawing out not knowing he was a prince instead of a stable worker would have really added to the story!

The book always explained what certain words meant, but it would have been more efficiant to put a glossary of vocab at the end of the book or the bottom of the page where the word was mentioned.

I think if the book was a series of 2-4 books would have really brought more attention to it and add to worldbuilding and fully fleshing out the characters. (Adding art in the book would have been fun to have a visual!)

The pacing just felt off to me, but I really liked the concept and the characters so despite its issues I did enjoy it. I hope to read more books from this author in the future if she ever releases more danmei inspired books:)

Book was alright, I liked the authors debut novel more though. This one felt too simple…main characters romance had no depth. They fell for each other instantly and formed a relationship right away. There were a lot of plot holes, such as not really explaining how Xian’s mother fell ill aside from being bitten by a white snake—was the snake’s color supposed to be significant???? Even the villains were cartoonish.

Wouldn’t recommend.
