At this point I think I've found a new genre that I love which is Queer Romantic Chinese Fantasy(a lot of the Danmei I find I love) Which I started to read last year. I also watched a Cdrama fantasy Love between a Fairy and a Devil which I absolutely sparked my interest.
I have some problems with this book, mostly logic things that I felt were a bit weird, but Lee made me cry at least 3-4 times so I'll look past that, haha.
As much as I loved this I just felt like Xian didn't deserve Zhen. Qing actually says it to Xian, "You don't deserve him!" Girl, I agree. I'm glad that they chinese gays got the happy ending they wanted but man Zhen i think you have some bad taste. I just didn't like how he treated Zhen, and it just didn't feel like a real apology happened, and the way Zhen is I don't think he expects it. But I don't think Zhen did anything wrong. That's my hot take.
The story is magical, this story has that mystical fairy tale feel. The first half of the book felt very warm, hug-like quality. The second half made me sob... WHY. I thought it was tragic, but also this is such a page turner Lee understands what pace should be set!
I did feel like Lee kept explaining a lot of things that I didn't think needed to be explained. Maybe it's because I've read in the genre before so I understand it, in that aspect as person not in this culture it's a good beginner novel to get into it.
I enjoyed this, and I want to keep an eye on this author for any they do in the future!

Personally, I wasn't expecting all those BBEG (big bad evil guy) reveals, so kudos to the author for that! Everything tied up neatly and the story was well-written. I enjoyed learning about the historical Chinese customs, beliefs, and medical knowledge presented in the story. Lee did a fantastic job of teaching while not taking away from the story.
