A timeless classic for good reason. Being my first voyage through Arthur Conan Doyle's famed collection, this book has sated my appetite for his other works, and undoubtedly set the bar high. We follow the renowned detective Sherlock Holmes and his faithful companion Watson through the unsettling moors of Dartmoor — housing a terrifying urban legend in the form of an infernal hound whose mere sight has extinguished the soul of its latest victim — as they investigate the curse looming near Baskerville Hall, which threatens to strike once more. Doyle strikes an impeccable balance between reality and the supernatural as he engulfs the reader in the dark and mysterious atmosphere of the moor, which comes alive at night to carry out its sinister design. The intricate web surrounding the case expands as we get to know the parties tied to the case and no page is wasted in advancing the mystery to its explosive conclusion. A must read for anyone that wishes to tread the moor in those hours of darkness when the powers of evil are exalted.

A thoroughly enjoyable read - a great mix of gothic story and murder mystery, so engaging and easy to read. I love the relationship between Watson and Holmes and need to read more Sherlock Holmes!

While I enjoyed the read, the book was less intriguing than I remember from years ago. In fact, most of the plot twists seemed more humorous than dramatic, but that's probably because the style of the Holmes mystery has been appropriated so frequently. Seems almost farcical.

Such a great read. I can see how these stories influenced the modern mystery genre. I am not a big mystery reader, but these stories may have changed that.
