I FINALLY FINISHED. this book was quite a journey. I think it was maybe the writing style or just the plot in general that kind of put me into a reading slump  but I couldn’t enjoy this book. I expected a fun murder mystery but I got a weird love story with way too long descriptions about feathers or the marsh in general that made the book so much longer than it was. the beginning was weird and the only thing that I kind of enjoyed was the questioning at the end. I did kind of expect the ending just because people always said it’s gonna be crazy but it’s quite predictable. but I have to say I’m really not impressed with this book I expected more and better. I do hav to say that I liked the ongoing conversation about racism as well as alcohol and abuse but this book was a huge disappointment.

btw huge red flag that the author is wanted for questioning about a murder

I loved this book especially in the first three quarters except for that last quarter of the book where the story was reminded of chase andrews death. I feel like the ending was a bit rushed but meaningful. Reading the courtroom sessions was a DRAG to the point I just skimmed it. The story had a good meaning and the imagery and writing especially in the beginning was so good. My favorite area of the book was her childhood.

TLDR: Painfully slow in the first third to half. Afterwards though, it becomes really enjoyable.

Longer Review: I am not overexaggerating when I say this book is painfully slow in the beginning. I got the audiobook and was struggling to get into the book early on. I also was debating dropping it but had a long road trip and decided to just endure through it. But I am glad I did. The book starts to really come around and become more enjoyable. It isn't good enough for me to recommend it to anyone, but if you like a slow burn mystery, then you would probably enjoy it.

Spoiler Review:
From the outset, I thought Kaya did it. But, as more time passed, I started to doubt myself. I thought maybe Tate had done it. All in all, still a good book though.
