I finally read this book! It took me forever because I wanted to absorb it all. I didn’t want it to end. I haven’t read a lot of mystery books, but I loved this one. It was so beautiful, sad, mysterious, and so much more. I loved it and would read again. There are some scary parts I didn’t love, but it makes sense to the story.

This was so slow and it felt like the story developed in broken pieces rather than slowly synthesizing together.

Romanticizes a new-to-me setting, incredibly moving character development, and feelings of both To Kill a Mockingbird and Wendell Berry. Genuinely shocked this is a debut!

This was a great book with lots of deeper meanings imbedded into the plot and character development. I enjoyed reading it being able to relate to Kya myself and especially around the family issues that’s brought up. At first I didn’t think I would be able to read the book but it didn’t take long until all I wanted to do was read it. The ending had a pretty big plot twist that makes me want to read the book again with the new perspective I have.

Really, really enjoyed this book. The time jumps between the murder investigation in present day and defining events in the past was done well. I really developed an emotional investment in Kya to the point where I teared up when she was found non guilty. However, I completely hated the epilogue where it's revealed she actually did kill Chase because I felt like it completely undermined the whole point that the town was unfairly judging her because she was "the Marsh Girl" and an outcast and that they presumed her guilty because of their prejudices towards her. If it had turned out that she really was innocent and the murderer was actually Tate or Jumpin' trying to protect her, this would have been 5 stars.

This might be my favorite book I've ever read. A beautiful look at one's inner dialogue, loneliness, perseverance and our connection to Mother Earth. Loved every page of this book, and would recommend to anyone. Especially women who might feel a little lost in life. Thank you, Delia Owens.
