It took me nine months to pluck up the courage to read this book.

I've followed these books for a few years now and I have grown to love them; the stories I've been carried along with, the characters I've laughed and cried with and most of all I loved the heart-wrenching emotions these books could manage to provoke.

I wasn't sure what to expect from City of Heavenly Fire as prior to reading I had found it's predecessors, City of Fallen Angels and City of Lost Souls, quite disappointing given the 'Valentine' storyline came to a close in City of Glass. However, I found City of Heavenly Fire was well done in bringing this series to a close and I eventually found myself beginning to appreciate the 'Sebastian' storyline a lot more.

What was slightly disappointing, though, was Clare's 'Stephanie Meyer' approach to the ending of the book, in which pretty much everyone managed to live to tell the tale. Despite Clare's efforts to provoke emotion through the deaths of Mark Blackthorn and Amatis, I found this scenario highly unbelievable and felt the book was perhaps cheated of a proper ending (every book needs it's Dumbledore, no?)

Overall though, I thought it was a wonderful way to bring the Mortal Instruments series to an end and I will miss them dearly.

My feelings remain pretty much the same, though slightly more apathetic this time around. I still really liked it though and I'm glad I read this series again, especially after reading The Infernal Devices, which I hadn't read the first go around. Some things made a lot more sense hah

Maybe now that I've finished this reread, I can finally read Lady Midnight lol

(Original review)

This conclusion was everything I had hoped for and more: an epic adventure, exploring new and old terrains, ending old storylines and introducing intriguing new ones, and the journey was just as important as the destination in this final installment.

All hope seems lost for our heroes, when the unthinkable happens--utter betrayal from a trusted ally. Lies from those who cannot lie. What are they to do when all that lays in Sebastian's wake is death and destruction?

The character deaths and death-fakeouts were emotionally charged and effective, but the deus es machina at the very end kind of killed it for me a little bit. Would have liked more death, frankly, and especially of a main character, not a character only introduced several books in.

GAH. Blargh. Sigh... Loved this book. Loved the characters. Loved how the MI series tied into the Clockwork series. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! Distraught it's over. NEED the next series or start soon. Mercy me.... I feel drained... Like a long lost friend has just said farewell forever.
