The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder is a young adult book written in verse about the day before Amber and Cade's lives change forever.
Written in beautiful verse, the story flows effortlessly.
I liked how Amber's backstory was revealed slowly throughout the book because it kept me reading.
I liked how the letters were interwoven into the story, showing hints of the past.
Although, I thought Amber and Cade fell in love with each other a little too fast.

What do you do if you are faced with a tough situation?
Do you stay and fight or do you run away?

The Day Before is my second book of Lisa Schroeder.
I am very happy to say that it didn’t disappoint again.
Just like with I haunt you, You Haunt me it gave me the same emotions maybe even more.

Amber was confused and distraught.
She grew up in a family that loves her but later finds out that they weren’t really her family.
Her real parents were fighting with the family that she grew up with for custody.
Amber didn’t want to be with them.
So Amber left for a day.
She went to the beach where she met Cade.
Amber and Cade were both facing tough situations and they found comfort with each other.
It was just one day but that one day was enough to affect what would happen to them next.

This book was again totally awesome.
The verses this time were more of a poem type this time compared to her first book.
I loved how Ms. Schroeder takes a topic like this one and make it into something so beautiful and creative.
The emotions were as real as before.

Amber’s case does not happen to everyone but not impossible to happen.
I would think that if it did happen the initial reaction of that person would be like hers.
Sad, frustrated and confused.
I guess there maybe some exception for other but majority the feeling would be similar to Amber’s.

Cade had a different case though.
He was afraid not only for his father but also for himself.
He was afraid of what might happen to him after he makes that very important decision.
His struggles were real.
As young as he was, I felt that anyone who would be placed with a similar situation would have the same struggle as he has.

I love the whole story.
Everything was weaved flawlessly together using verses that clearly express everything that happened to both the main characters.
You would find yourself sympathizing for them both as they were too young to face the challenges that they were facing.
I loved how they found strength from each other despite the fact that they just met that day.
All of us affect one another.
People we meet on the streets, our friends, our families.
We are all part of one another whether we acknowledge it or not.
One small gesture of kindness would mean a whole lot to someone else.

I loved this book but not as much as I have love I heart you, You haunt me.

I give this a 4! :D

After [b:Far from You|4732517|Far from You|Lisa Schroeder|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1267826107s/4732517.jpg|4797085] and [b:I Heart You, You Haunt Me|1832749|I Heart You, You Haunt Me|Lisa Schroeder|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1188955744s/1832749.jpg|1832664] this is my third book by Lisa Schroeder. I liked her previous novels but they didn’t impress me the way The Day Before finally did.

The Day Before is a great summer read because the story takes place on one sunny day at the beach. It also has a serious touch to it though because it deals with slightly heavy topics. I won’t spoil anything because it was a lot of fun for me to read this book and slowly discover what the letters that Amber receives are all about and what it is that Cade does not want to share.

Amber herself is a cool girl. She plays drums and loves music so it was easy for me to like her. The same goes for Cade who was a bit mysterious but also charming and witty. Amber and Cade meet at an aquarium which was one of my favourite settings in the book. I loved to imagine the jellyfish, sharks and starfish.

There is a lot of name dropping of bands and movies going on. As I knew most of the names I enjoyed this but I think not every reader will know what Amber and Cade are talking about.

Between the usual verses you can find a lot of letters from Amber and her family. They added variety to the storytelling and gave little hints about Amber’s past (and future). I liked them a lot.
Apart from that Lisa Schroeder’s writing style is the usual: short, flowing, partly original and unnecessarily in verse. I always read her verses like paragraphs anyway. The verse structure hardly ever adds anything to the storytelling. At times I also felt like the author didn’t completely trust her words. Usually it’s just one word or a phrase, something I could’ve thought of myself as a reader. I don’t always need the author to spell everything out for me.

One last bad thing about the book: Cade calls Amber “angel” twice, urgh!
One last good thing about the book: it has glitter in it!

I’m still wondering whether the final letter was necessary. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a sweet letter but it would’ve been a good open ending without it, too. I’d be really interested in a sequel by the way, to see how Amber is doing in her new life.

Thanks to Simon & Schuster for allowing me access to an early review copy through their GalleyGrab program.

Life is the bad
With all the good. We got this gift when we were bornWe can return it if we want to
But If u want to keep it
It wont be sweet all the time
That’s why its called life
And what we do with it makes it ultimately our own.
For all the good and the bad its our lives no matter what happens to it.
All the good that happen to me is mine alone, only to be mixed in it is all the bad; nobody can have my life and I cant have theirs. If I took theirs I would cave in and if they tried to trade lives with me they couldn’t handle it either. SO right now I try to be happy and feeling blessed that I have this life. That is what I got from reading this book.

Each and very book you get something, you relate and you learn a lesson. I discovered my lesson mixed in with my own situation and added with my words but its based off and was able to start with her book.

Its beautifully and poetical written. It’s a book I totally want to read again and again and again from time after time. It’s a book I want to buy.
It’s a book that gave me courage to do what I needed to do, when I am currently depressed.
This book had set me free. The first step that i had ran away from was born when I read this book.
I starve for living when I read this book not even close to death or hearing the voices of my never-ending fear. It had set me free.
All I have to do now is to remember the lesson and go on with my life through the good and bad.

I really love YA fiction. I have...pretty much always, since I became a reader it was one of my favorite genres. Fantasy or realistic, doesn't matter. But sometimes lately, I read a YA and go...

"God damn, I'm too old for this."

Because look, if I were 16, this book would be the best thing I'd ever read. Ohh, you meet a boy in skinny jeans and a beanie at the aquarium and spend the day falling in love and you end up cuddling all night and it's just so FUCKING ROMANTIC. What 16 year old doesn't have that exact fantasy with like, that kid in their algebra classes face in it?

I'm not 16 though. So I spent the majority of the book going "WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOUR PARENTS?!"

Which tends to spoil the mood.

So if you can suspend all your cranky old grandma thoughts, this is a fast and sickly sweet read, although there's far more romance than there is you know...drama or mystery or anything else. If you can't, just keep a big stick near you to shake at anyone that walks by while you read it.

This book is rated extremely well. I wanted to read about the mystery revolving around why a girl and boy would both want to escape their lives for a day. What would these two strangers discover on their day off from their normal lives?

Pros:
-beautiful writing. The entire book is written poetically. I've never read a book completely written in verse. I was a little hesitant about this, but it was easy to read and really beautiful.
-Amber wants to escape a huge day that's going to change her life. I liked how things were slowly revealed throughout the book, though at times, I made some assumptions that turned out to be completely wrong. I actually enjoyed that I couldn't immediately figure everything out. With a book composed of so few words, it was nice that it wasn't predictable.

Why 3 stars? There was a ton of hype. I feel like the book was good, but it wasn't the best thing I'd ever read or anything earth shattering. It won't be a re-read kind of book for me.

The Day Before è un libro strano, scritto in versi come se fosse una poesia.
I suoi piani però vengono stravolti dall'incontro con Cade, the beautiful boy.

Cara Lisa Schroeder, grazie! Avevo un estremo (e quasi fisico) bisogno di un libro così da tanto tempo.

Il libro verrà pubblicato il 28 giugno, se ne avete la possibilità vi consiglio assolutamente di comprarlo!
