Great murder mystery, a little dark and confusing but great writing and an awesome read

This book had mixed reviews but I loved it!! The concept was insanely interesting and like almost similar to a clue(?) but I found it so fascinating and by the end I was still surprised by most of the reveals which doesn’t usually happen. The main character was fun even though with him being in 8 bodies it was hard to figure out who he actually was, and you really felt some of the emotions he was fighting with / feeling as you read. It was really good. Idk if I’d read it again bc like most of these books once you know the ending it’s less interesting, but insanely good one day short read. Definitely one of my top mysteries I’ve read of all time.

Agatha Christie meets Blake Crouch meets Benjamin Stevenson. So much fun and the depth to back it up.

Nothing gets me out of a reading slump quite like a good mystery. And this one packed a punch. Let me start by saying, if you couldn’t tell by the five star rating I’ve given, I ADORE this book. The concept of the story intrigued me from the get go and the execution was even more sensational. Turton is utterly brilliant, with ripe imagery and beautiful and evocative writing that paints a picture of gloomy Blackheath and all of its hateful, secretive guests and servants. He is a complete master of suspense and drama, keeping me enthralled despite the fact that you begin to grow more and more familiar with the events of the loop as you go on. The loop could easily become boring with the familiarity of the situation but there are too many things at stake and so much going on in ONE DAY that the entire story put together will blow your mind. Every time I thought I had an understanding of the situation, a new revelation would appear and astound me, forcing me to reevaluate what I’d calculated before. There are so many layers to this story and it is so delicious and complex. Every reveal will shock you but has its perfect place within a bigger whole, clues placed deliberately and strategically along the way. My jaw kept dropping more and more as I read on, and the ENDING— everyone who loves mystery should absolutely get their hands on this book. It has elements of thriller and horror in it as well, and the idea of the loop is very fantastical. I believe this book has something for everyone. I enjoyed it immensely and believe it to be one of the best mysteries out there. Rereading this one will be an absolute delight.

Sometimes I fancy myself an intellectual who can see the end of a story when it starts. That attitude completely hampered me during the first half of this book, and when I frustratedly surrendered myself to the story I found a confusing, terrifying, awesome one. I have no idea how Turton compiled these pieces, and frankly I don’t care. My mind is bent, my heart is racing.

This...was WOW! SO AMAZING! The beginning is extremely hard to get into because of the sheer amount of information you're bombarded with. Also the way the story unfolds is a little confusing, but once you get used to the writing style it's a thrilling ride!

It's best to go into this not knowing too much. Theres a house in the woods filled with strangers with secrets. Evelyn Hardcastle dies at the end of each night. You get 8 tries to solve her murder. You relive the same day each time, in a different persons body. And everyone knows something they shouldn't.

Seriously the skill it takes to craft a story this multifaceted and complex is enviable. I felt so much, and was very confused but thoroughly entertained the ENTIRE time. Regardless of how confused I was I never once considered myself bored.

Read this book. It's an absolute thrill ride and literary genius. Thank you Stuart Turton for this gift.
