Epic, eerie and absolutely bonkers in a way only LXC could do!

4.5- a series of scifi short stories. No other scifi writer gets my mind whirling with interesting ideas quite like Liu Cixin. Thoroughly enjoyed the different mini journeys each story took. Some are weaker and some are stronger. Overall I really liked the collection.

I loved some of the short stories. I loved them so much that the other were worth it. I particularly enjoyed the first story, “The Village Teacher.” I also liked the totally different perspective the Liu brings to my world by not being from a western tradition. It seems odd to say this but it is so rare for western science fiction to talk openly about religion, that it was refreshing to read a work that did. Also the high regard for art alongside science was a compelling theme.

It's always hard to rate a short story collection. Some of the stories I really enjoyed, while some I struggled to get through. Generally the author explored a lot of interesting concepts, but struggled from including way too much detail in a few stories.
