This book was kind of all over the place. The main characters were hard to relate to. They were one extreme of emotion to the next. I mean Damon is a complete and utter jerk and yet he loves her? I didn’t understand that part at all. Especially when he would say her attitude would turn him off. They way both of them handled each other was hostile, hateful and down right rude but they “loved” each other. Once Damon decided to man up and be nice though he completely changed and I had a hard time reconciling this. I mean he was 2 different men. Plus this didn’t really feel like a Christmas romance and I can’t really explain it. I mean it was during Christmas and they talked about Christmas but it felt more like an afterthought, forcing the book into that Christmas romance genre.
I will say the sex scenes were hot. It felt like that was all the book was though, hot sex with confusing characters.
So i figured out what bothered me. Because honestly I enjoy some of those alpha boss stories so I could t quite understand why this one bugged me so much. It’s their dynamic. He wasn’t just teasing her at work he was being hurtful and purposely trying to get her to hate him. And she wasn’t flirting back, she was going home at nights and crying about her work day. This is where it really differs from those other bossy boss stories.

I'll admit to not liking Damon, and not wanting to like Damon! But man, Alexis can write a mean bastard into a lovable man. It is a sweet story but also deals with some hard family insecurities that are so relatable. Loved all of it!

Hallmark with some spice

This book is a cute hallmark movie with the spice added. Damon and Kate with their Boss and Fake relationship is cute

DID NOT FINISH: 49%

The concept is cute but the stories kinda a mess. The characters personalities are all over the place, especially Damon. The stories also rushed.

I’ve been trying to read this one for days and I keep getting sidetracked. It’s not because it was boring or a bad story, I just kept getting pulled away.

So we’ve got a workplace thing but the majority of the story takes place out of the office. The point here is that he’s her boss and he’s a massive jerk. Cue: enemies to lovers. He’s got that whole pulling pigtails thing going on. He’s definitely into her and he likes their banter and her fire. She’s not so much a fan and he frequently makes her cry which she hides for some reason. To his slim credit he doesn’t realize he’s making her cry and like a typical, clueless man thinks she enjoys his asshole behavior.

After a disastrous day of his self-absorbed behavior he’s shocked to find her drowning her sorrows at a bar. He realizes he’s ruined her Christmas and is then determined to fix it. He insists on taking her to her family for Christmas and when he’s there *he* spontaneously decides to play the devoted boyfriend.

There is chemistry between them and she does feel more than aggravation for him but she is hesitant to play along. This is the first time I’ve encountered the non-family member insisting on playing fake relationship to the family when the actual family member didn’t want it. It was a different take to this trope. I kind of liked it.

Story 3/5, Heat 2.25/5, Angst 2/5

Medium burn, they get sexy around 50%.

No virgins, no manwhore, no OW drama, slight OM drama, push away from h, no actual breakups since they weren’t together but there is a very brief separation after Christmas (like 2 days). No cheating, no cliffhanger and HEA.

Safety - I’d consider this safe in regards to H/h relationship. The h’s ex is hanging around and she believes her ex likely cheated on her before breaking up. He’s the OM drama here but it wasn’t much - it felt like it was being set up to be more than it was.

Too bad that this is a novella.
