I really liked this book! The two different POV’s of the women were a stark contrast and interesting to read set against the 1940’s backdrop.

The book follows two storylines: a Black teen who is attempting to follow her dreams of getting out of her impoverished neighborhood and be the first of her family to go to college, and a Black, female college student who is trying to fit in with her boyfriend's uppity family as she pusues her degree. The storylines are on the same timeline and eventually intersect. I thought it was a well-written and interesting story.
