Good prose and interesting world but I couldn't finish this book. I don't think I've ever come across a more repulsive protagonist. I suspect he's supposed to be an unreliable narrator and that there's some kind of payoff down the road, but you can only take so many pages of arrogance and self-pity before you start asking yourself why you should care. It's like an extreme neckbeard tried to project himself into a Fantasy world as a Mary Sue character. I've had this book recommended to me by many, many friends but I was sorely disappointed. There are enough narcissists in the real world, let's not give the fictional ones any more space than we need to.

With the final quote basically saying that you are what you think you are, I think Kvothe was an unreliable narrator who saw his past as a great adventure where either people loved him or were against him.

I didn't like the authors depiction and writing of women as ig was very male author like

If my thoughts of him being an unreliable narrator were wrong, then Kvothe is most definitely a Mary sue.

Overall its good if you're looking for adventure and a thick book but if you're looking for something everlasting and classic like Tolkien or something then this book might not be for you.
