This is my second read after 10ish years and I honestly forgot how good the writing is. As much as I include myself in the hoards of readers steadily losing hope year by year that we will ever get our hands on the final chapter, I find myself just grateful that I got to experience such exquisite story telling. If I have to, I’ll imagine my own ending. It’s worth it.

This was a good book. It started a little slow for me but it was definitely intriguing enough to keep me invested. The main character is very likable and clever in a way that isn't written enough. The story telling aspect of the story is excellent! I'm hoping to unravel more of the mysteries in the next book.
Amazing. Enthralling and magical, never have I been so invested in a character. Full review to come.

This book took me months to finish. Like, probably 6 months. I read it on a recommendation from a friend and, although I'm glad I did, it definitely has flaws. I will say this first- I really enjoyed this book and I do plan to read the next one.
[b:The Name of the Wind|186074|The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1)|Patrick Rothfuss|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1472068073s/186074.jpg|2502879] is exactly the kind of novel that I would devour. I love fantasy, and I love high fantasy to boot. Although this book is touted as "high fantasy" I definitely wouldn't call it that. This isn't Lord of the Rings or The Wheel of Time. There are tons of fantasy elements that make it a great read, but I think the biggest flaw in this book is pacing.
I'm not the first to say this, but I really do think this first book would be closer to a coming-of-age story, rather than high fantasy. So far, the plot is super flimsy. We don't really have a whole lot of conflict. We have questions, and tons of them, but not enough to justify making an entire heavy book out of them. There is no urgency at all and even though that shouldn't be a mark against the work that [a:Patrick Rothfuss|108424|Patrick Rothfuss|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1351307341p2/108424.jpg] has created, it does.
I fully believe that each book should stand on its own. Yes, I know that this is the first book in a series, but that doesn't give it leeway to have the kind of flaws that are ever present in the text. The main character is kind of full of himself, though I will say that lessens to a bearable amount as the book progresses.
For all of that, I really did enjoy it and I can't bring myself to give it anything less than 4 starts. Although, I would say that it deserves more around 3.5.

i just finished this book and… wow. i don’t even know where to begin. firstly, the writing itself is some of the most beautiful prose i’ve ever read. there were so many lines that stopped me in my tracks — sentences i had to write down just to hold onto them. “but a word is nothing but a painting of fire. a name is the fire itself.” wow. that’s not just clever, it’s art. the whole book is full of moments like that. so sharp, so thoughtful, it kept making me laugh in awe at how good it was. and then there’s the story. ugh. it’s such a story. the way it loops, with the epilogue landing almost exactly where the prologue began, felt so satisfying, like a perfect circle. kvothe is one of the most compelling characters i’ve ever followed. he’s brilliant, flawed, desperate, funny, devastating. i have so many questions, so many theories, and i just know this is going to be one of those stories that sticks with me forever.
the best way i can describe the feeling it left me with is.. it’s like leaving a movie theater after watching a superhero film, where you walk out into the night air feeling lighter, inspired, like maybe magic is real and maybe heroes do exist. that’s what this book did to me. the name of the wind isn’t just a fantasy novel, it’s an experience, and it’s one i’ll never forget. <3
