Aquele do menino da trupe que acaba indo para a universidade que ensina simpatia. Maravilhoso.

Incredibly poetic writing, the author does an amazing job at building the scenes in your mind and offering a glimpse into the characters’ worlds.

I’m really not sure how I feel about this? I didn’t not enjoy it; I wanted to see where it was going. I know it’s the first book so I do feel like it was doing a lot of ground work laying and world building. I do want to read the next one but I’m not convinced yet? I can’t say I loved it

I think I'm too used to reading YA fantasy. This was wayyy too long for me to love it. It's incredibly detailed with descriptions of the events in Kvothe's childhood. I'm glad the story was told in a past-and-present way: the grown-up Kvothe telling the story of kid and teen Kvothe to Chronicler. I probably would have gotten bored of the story if it was told right from the start of Kvothe's childhood. I do find his life devastatingly interesting, but I couldn't find myself being attached to any of the characters. However, something about the writing kept me reading anyway so I didn't take too long to finish reading. It took about 30 pages for things to start making sense and for me to get into the book. I'll still read the next book to find out more about the next part of Kvothe's life, but i think I'll have a break from reading heavy fantasy like this for a while.

I got quite far into this one a while back but put it down during a move & just restarted recently.
Took some time as physical books quickly cause naps for me & this one is a considerable read.

Worth it.

Rare that a book this long keeps me invested (looking at you Stephen King) but Rothfuss is quite a storyteller.
Just special ordered book 2.

I found myself entertained enough to finish, but man, Kvothe is such a grating protagonist to follow along. He’s good at everything and always right, and all of his enemies show up just so he can humiliate them (and then everyone claps!).

The magic system was cool, but under-explored, and then set to an extremely Harry Potter setting with another orphan protagonist, it didn’t feel very fresh.

And the way women are written is so painful — they hardly show up for half the book, and then every single female character is put into some sexually embarrassing situation in the second half. The main love interest is the embodiment of “she’s not like the other girls — she knows she’s beautiful without all that makeup.” Ugh.

Ultimately this just felt like a very adolescent straight male power fantasy that I just couldn’t relate to. The language is sometimes pretty good, but often grating because it wants to come off as adult and heavy while the author’s perspective is honestly immature.
