aaah so many mixed feelings over this one.
I love the idea (jack frost anyone?!) and the different seasons
In a way it felt a tiny bit like a jack frost meets pixiehollow meets something dark...
But it felt a bit rushed and all over the place with not enough world/character building
It is a duology but at the same time it feels like a standalone. I mean... this is a well enough ending right? Doesn't leave you for wanting to go out immediately and pick up the next one

Cover is pretty and concept is interesting but this was so disappointing, I really didn't enjoyed world building and pacing was off.
Characters like romance was flat and why is this duology when everything is wrapped but I digress.

Honestly not what I was expecting or wanting. I’m not so sure I’m going to continue on with this series. It just was never able to hold my attention like I needed it too.

I went through a lot of different feelings while reading this book. When I first started it, I was pretty excited. The concept of different people who embody a certain season living in our world, and having to kill each other at the beginning/ending of their seasons was quite different and interesting. I was eager to see what that looked like. Unfortunately, we never really got to see what the seasons did during their "season". How does it look? What does their magic do, exactly? Do they control the weather? What do they actually DO? We never really find out. We do find out some things about their powers here and there throughout the book. But the magic system, and the reason these people became, or needed to become, the seasons is never really explained.

That was honestly the most disappointing thing about the book for me. What I did like, though, was how each season (the actual season, not the person) was described. It made me really think about what I appreciated about living in a place where we have all four seasons, and they are clearly different. I liked the ending of the book. There were interesting things about the story's progression, even if it wasn't what I hoped it would be at the beginning. I think I would continue on, since this looks to be a series.

So to start things off,
when the main plan was revealed at around 25% of the novel, I thought the rest of the story would be about the escape
. Luckily, this was not the case. The story moved fast through a lot of big events, which helped maintain smooth reading.

I really tried to get into the story and characters, but I couldn’t really connect with them. I knew one or two major points about their reasoning and past experiences, but not much more. This was a shame because it made some choices really questionable and others quite predictable to me. However, the names were a nice touch, made it easier to remember which character was which season.

Overall, it was a fun read, but nothing special.
