The audiobook was really lovely. I got to have the experience of listening while stargazing and it was magical.
My own beliefs are similar to miss Sagan's and it's nice to hear a book on the subject with so much depth. I will be recommending it to people for years to come.

Five star rating is selfishly for myself, a mom inadvertently raising my kids in a secular household. I've struggled to balance traditions and rituals that are typically anchored in religious belief with the joy and feelings I have of my memories that are attached to them. I will always let my kids choose what they want to believe, but I recognize that not bringing them up in a traditional church means that they won't have those same experiences that shaped my belief journey. I'm still trying to navigate this and make meaningful traditions and rituals for our family while teaching them what I can and setting an example to be respectful about what other people believe.
I really appreciated the author's perspective and hearing the way she has handled this tug-of-war in her own life and in the early stages of raising her daughter. The are so many ways that people have marked milestones and held celebrations throughout human history and sticking to one group's list of traditional holidays seems a little silly when set against the backdrop of thousands of years of human existence and belief systems.
I'd say the writing itself was more like 3 stars but this is one I will not hesitate to return to when I find myself at another inevitable crossroads in my life and parenting journey.
