5-star idea. Brilliantly maps Pride and Prejudice characters and situations to modern DC setting. The whole Bennet family is chef's kiss! The overall execution and romance didn't quite land for me, it was well worth the read!

This is an entire 5 stars. WOW.

I met Nikki Payne for a hot second at Steamy Lit Con 2023 and she said she wrote this book (paraphrasing) because she liked Pride and prejudice but wanted it to be sexier! Nikki herself is a vivavious, funny, sparkling personality and the book is just the same as her.

If you have watched the 2005 Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightly greater than 20 times like myself, you will ADORE this book. It takes the best scenes of that movie and skillfully weaves it into the modern romance: a young woman determined to change the world but not realizing she may not know how to do that, and a young man who is hung up on preserving his parents’ legacy, not realizing he is going about it all wrong. They collide and BOOM SPARKS. I gobbled it up. I gasped, I texted friends to gush about it, I had kicky feet, and I let loose enough horrifying giggles to make even Janae Bennett be embarrassed (read the book you’ll see).

This is a romance must read in the making. Can’t wait for Nikki Payne’s next book!!
