I’m constantly chasing the high I felt after reading and obsessing over ACOTAR. I’ve found a few books that have matched my excitement. However, this is the first time I’ve found a book where I’m genuinely excited there are 5 more books (6 total in The Plated Prisoner Series). I can’t wait to learn more about Auren’s story.
One of my favorite quotes:
“For she would not grow without sacrifice. Only pieces of him would ever suffice. For her to keep growing, that was her price. This golden gold vine was the miser’s own vice.”
Tropes I loved:
• Adult epic fantasy
• Strong, likable FMC

This book had so much potential, i love the idea of a King Midas retelling but there are major problems with it.
First and foremost it is so unnecessarily vulgar and violent. I understand how this perhaps was to show the brutal nature of this world but it is not okay to write such detailed sa scenes. My rating would be much higher if i weren't constantly disgusted with the treatment of female characters and the overuse of vulgar words (the word 'cunt' especially). I hope in the next books the author gives women more power over what's happening to them. Also, I am a little scared that the mc will end up too overpowered.
I rather liked Auren, she really can't be expected to act reasonably after living in captivity for so long, so her trust for Midas and how she overlooks him being an abuser as well is fitting. I hope the author expands her relationship with Rissa more thoroughly as it would be nice to see positive feelings between female characters. The complaints about it being boring i don't understand as I thought for a book this short quite a lot happened. The author's prose also can't be left without praise as it made reading this book so much better.
I have high expectations for Glint considering how many people consider it better.

Slow start and kind of repetitive, but it picks up at the halfway mark.

Really easy read, some triggering parts but I've read worse. Overall, really enjoyed it and read it in a day
