⭐️3.5 (TW: Stockholm syndrome, sexual abuse and graphic scenes)
I wasn’t expecting much from the book. Described as low fantasy and adorned with low ratings, I was hoping it would be at least worth the 99p I paid to read it.
And it did. Surprisingly so.
But one thing I will warn of, I am not a fan of the opening premise hence the 3.5 rating. A woman kept in a gilded cage used and abused by the King, a King whom she believes to love and have that in return doesn’t sit comfortably with me. There was no sense of female empowerment at the beginning, but this soon became solved when we started to see some action and underlying themes at play to explain more.
And talk about the sometimes painful monologue about love and safety (Stockholm syndrome).
But as the drama of the story began to unravel I found myself eagerly turning the page. It definitely picked up in the second half and anyone who loves fantasy will start to see the Easter eggs put in place for the finale.
I can’t wait to read the next one!

I only read this so fast because I was hunting for the plot
I DID IT, I FINISHED IT!!
Pfff... for a long while I did not think I would. This book looks so pretty but man I struggled to get through this. It got better towards the end but the main character annoyed me so much I honestly couldn't care less if she survived or not and I doubt that is a good sign
