This book was hard to read... there were so many themes of drug abuse and sex... and I think it made me realize that as a cis guy reading stories about lesbians is difficult because I am obviously not a woman and can't really understand what it's like... but what do I know haha.

The main reason I stopped reading is because I had to return it to my library ngl

Strong surrealism vibes, based in Argentina. Dark, grotesque, graphic, and highly interesting. After every short story I was left feeling a little spooked and reflecting on what I just read. Wonderful writing!

The best collection of the best short stories I've ever read! Going into the book I didn't know what to expect nor did I have high expectations, but damn did this book prove me wrong in the most cursed, yet oddly beautiful way. Wouldn't recommend this for the most sensitive people, but if you're not easily distubed by the darker side of human lives, try this out! I've never visited Buenos Aires or anywhere similar, but I'd say I got a very authentic Argentina experience just from reading this book. As in, it was so well-written that it was easy for a total foreigner like me to imagine all the surroundings, even smell the scents or hear the songs.

Story collections tend to be a bit tedious if you read them wrong, the magic trick here is to read not more than 2 stories in one sitting. I've seen people finish these type of books in a day (if you like to binge read short stories you do you, I applaud your ability, I just have adhd), and i think short stories work better when you have a clear mind, you have to take a small pause between stories or they might blend in your mind. Read two stories, go for a cup of tea, watch a YouTube video, and then continue for another two chapters.
Besides that, I had a great time, the atmosphere of this book is so familiar to me, i grew up in a very similar place that some people in this book and I have to tell you, the amount of anxiety i had thanks to those stories was more than I expected.
I wouldn't categorise this book as horror or a thriller, it's more of a tense suspense leaning read.
