I really enjoyed this book. It gives a Chinese perspective you just don't hear, focusing on innovations there, as well as giving a broad overview of AI applications that is accessible to the general audience. While Lee is significantly more pro-capitalist solutions, pro-hustle-culture (slash work as identity), and pro-VCs than I am, his conclusions about the direction future economies will need to take is nonetheless interesting and grounded.
As I concluded the final pages of Kai-Fu Lee’s book, somewhat annoyed by the weakness of the ending, I wondered what this world is going to look like when AI replaces many of our routine tasks and work lives.
I can tell you what our world looks like today: interminable gridlock on Toronto streets. Thousands of cars making trips that needn’t be taken at all. Polluting the air. Throwing up pointless tons of CO-2 emissions.
Why couldn’t people make the same trips with VR glasses to virtual workplaces and eliminate the physical consumption of resources? And schools. And malls. And govt facilities.
AI could help build these virtual places.

Absolute gem that has everything to offer starting from a short history of artificial intelligence, geopolitical surge, till the predictions on the future of artificial intelligence in our society..... Possibly the best book on AI in the market, highly recommended.
deeply insightful and highly relevant given the recent development of generative AI.
10/10 would recommend readers who are interested in learning about the history, along with the progressive implementation of artificial intelligence through tech “giants” in China and the US.

It was very interesting and inspired me to invest in a China fund because it made a good case for why Chinese companies have been successful and how China will continue to increase AI share. It could have been edited more tightly though - some bits were repetitive.
