Book 3 in the Gods & Monsters series starts with high stakes and just keeps going. This book was a whole roller coaster! You get multiple POVs in this one (even the 'villains') and Amber has this uncanny ability to make you connect with almost every character. They're all deliciously morally grey. If you're looking for a fantasy read that's SPICY and immersive with high angst, Female rage, epic fight scenes and that can illicit strong emotions, I highly recommend this book (and this series).

This was so great. So many feel good moments in addition to the scenes that keep you on the edge of your seat. I’m so invested in Dianna and Samkiel. There are great twists and turns and again the world building is woven so beautifully into the story. There’s amazing smut and beautiful romance. Characters are complex and Amber V. Nicole gives us information at the perfect time. Love it!

I honestly have no words. I started this book at 1pm yesterday… I finished it in just over 24 hours. I stayed up until 2am last night (A WORK NIGHT) to read on because chapter 58-73 (YES, 15 CHAPTERS), MADE MY HEART STOP BEATING. AND THEN, from 93 onwards I WAS STRESSED, MY HEART WAS POUNDING FOR ITS LIFE 😭 it was CINEMATIC. Chapter 98 was CRAZY, the lines in that chapter had me SCREAMING.

This book took the series onto a WHOLE other level, we started from young, brash Dianna in urban fantasy, to a still brash Dianna (🤣) but she’s grown so much and so has the world. The world is also SUBSTANTIALLY BIGGER. Amber has honestly taken this series to a whole other level. We’re seeing more realms, more creatures, more beings. It was sometimes hard to imagine where I was and what I was imagining, but I still enjoyed it.

Characters

There are more POVs in this to understand some previously back seat characters. Some are not there (makes sense when you read it), and you’re also introduced to new characters. I enjoyed it a lot, the side characters feel much more substantial. At first I was quite apprehensive cause some POVs didn’t feel like their character in book 1/2 but it was good because that perception of said characters was challenged by having their own POV. It made them much more complex and human. with the new characters, Amber is definitely setting them up for something HUGE that’s going to happen in the future. Really intrigued.

Character development

This book made be feel a thousand different emotions. Honestly, I was so nervous at the beginning and as we progressed into the middle, I was so frustrated and angry at one character, but in the context of everything they went through, it makes sense why they were acting like that. They had a great character development by the end, I’m so proud of them.

Samkiel and Dianna. I just love them two so much. Samkiel is THE book boyfriend. That man is a walking green flag. AND CHAPTER 68-73 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠 It gave me everything I’ve ever wanted in a romantasy, how rare this is 😭😭 I read Chapter 68 with One Day by Hans Zimmer in the background and it was bloody perfect. I recommend.

New relationships also form and honestly…. I love them too 😭😩

This book is SO much more spicier than book 1 and 2. 🌶️🌶️🌶️. Borderline maybe too much to the point where it wasn’t really adding to the plot. It made sense in some parts of the book… other times they just couldn’t take their hands of each other 🤣.
The book starts with a few different POVs before you get Dianna/Samkiel. I was honestly thinking the goddamn worse but then boom, Chapter 5, the first Dianna chapter. What are they doing?! They’re doing the nasty 🤣🤣🤣 Then in chapter 29, they pulled a goddamn Tamlin under the mountain! It was so frustrating, do it later please when you’re not in bloody danger 😭

Action/plot

This book is actioned-packed with battles. I didn’t feel bored at all, Dianna and Samkiel are just a force to be reckoned with. In terms of the non-battle scenes relating to the plot, I feel like it could have been a little bit clearer because a lot happens, but it might just be me and my brain cause I was reading so fast 😅
I just knew that Nismera was gaining allies and killing rebels, Camilla trying to put together a medallion, Nismera making some weapons and Dianna/Samkiel trying to?… stop her whilst in hiding?? I think The Eye plot was there at the beginning, then fell, then picked up at the end

The ENDING?! EXCUSE ME. I NEED BOOK 4 NOW BUT BOOK 3 ISN’T EVEN OUT YET. There are so many plot twists at the end and one particular character pops out of nowhere in chapter 103. They are alluded to in some scenes when I think back but I think this needs to be stronger. Some readers may feel like it came out of nowhere, making the ending a little random. Chapter 105 and 106 was WILD, like WHAT. I NEED ANSWERS NOW.

This series honestly has potential to become the next big adult romantasy. I really don’t know what is going to happen in this 7 book series because book 3 was just insanely good.

Thank you Amber and Headline Eternal for the e-arc on Netgalley 🤍
