Dieses Buch schliesst Wiesels Trilogie um seine Erlebnisse während des Holocausts ab. Und das merkt man dem Buch auch an: es beendet. Rundet. Macht zu.

Der Autor beschäftigt sich in diesem sehr nachdenklichen und ruhigen Werk mit den Fragen nach dem Leben und dem Tod. Darf man den Holocaust überleben? Darf man danach einfach weitermachen? Auf sanfte Art und Weise nähert sich Wiesel dem Thema der Schuld des Überlebenden an. Wie kann man nach diesen Erfahrungen weiterleben? Geht das überhaupt?

Es ist ein langsames Buch, aber sehr tief. Stille Wasser. Das beweist auch der Erzähler der Geschichte. Ergreifend, erschütternd, bewegend. Wie alle vorherigen Teile der Trilogie. Dennoch auch poetisch, philosophisch, erwärmend. Jedem, der sich auf eine andere, unverbrauchte Art und Weise mit dem Holocaust beschäftigen möchte, kann ich Wiesels Werke empfehlen.

 Mostly introspective, this novel felt more abstract and was least engaging of the Night Trilogy to me. Once again writing about himself in somewhat fictional circumstances, Wiesel explores his thoughts and feelings related to being a Holocaust survivor.
