I work at a book store. This was set aside in a stack of ARCs and it has the SYFY cover. It looked interesting, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm not super into graphic novels/comics, but I've been known to enjoy one from time to time. This wasn't one of them. Turns out this wasn't an ARC, but just a free version the publisher sent to us. It's really just not my thing. I don't get the appeal. I freely admit that maybe it's just not for me, but yeah. Hard pass on any more of these.

I caught up on all the issues from this series and let me just say how brilliant the writing is. It is such a real story, with real characters that just come off the page. Every main character did some sort of self-reflection throughout the comic, but Marcus did the most self-reflection out of everyone else in the comic (so far). His pain is real and his thoughts are (and still is) eating him alive. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think exactly like him. Teenagers will be teenagers especially when you provide them an environment where killing each other is considered extra credit. Street smarts vs academic smarts holds a pretty good weight to this story, too, and I think it really judges it and critically analyzes how it effects certain people.

Deadly Class is a wonderful read and I can’t wait to continue the series and watch it all come together. Would highly recommend this series to any comic lovers.

I enjoyed this book but I feel like the plot was all over the place and I honestly didn't know where the story was going to go. I liked the artwork but the story and characters had no development. I'm excited to read more graphic novels but I'm not sure if I will read volume 2 of this series.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel, honestly, in the beginning, I was a little astounded at how violent it was but I found myself really enjoying it, and the art style was just gorgeous and seemed to fit very well with the themes of this series. I cannot wait until I can pick up the next ones.

There weren't many things I really disliked about this graphic novel, it's not for everyone clearly. It has a lot of violence and things that may be triggering.

I loved this graphic novel for a lot of reasons, the art style was a big one, I loved the way this was drawn and how well it fits into the story. The characters in this were also really great, gritty and realistic for what they had gone through but also real teens.

I am so excited to read the rest of this series!

I was really excited to finally read this graphic novel, but sadly it did not meet my expectations. Very good idea for a story. A school for assassins seems like a story that promises to be captivating, however the rest of the book just did not reach the same level as the concept. For starters, while the acid trip scenes are visually exciting, they don't do much to extend the plot. The majority of the fight scenes are a little dull and drawn out. Such scenes just did not grab my attention enough to keep me engaged. The whole last part of the volume paints Marcus as a weak, boring character who the reader wouldn't want to follow. Secondly, the female characters were awful. As stated by many other reviews, Maria and Saya don't really do a whole lot. They fill the role of romantic/sexual interest and then stop being useful. I would have liked to see them have more of a role in the first volume, especially Saya because there seems to be a lot going on with her. They fit the normal role of sex objects in comics and don't do much as human beings. Also, the whole bestiality does seem like a cop out to make Marcus' old roommate immediately identifiable as the bad guy whose mentally unstable. Rather than take the time to really develop the character, it seems like he was just thrown together into a stereotypical villain. I most likely will not be continuing the series, because it just did not pull me in enough to make me want to know what happens next.

It's fast paced and full of really intense moments. I would definitely recommend it if you like darker narratives and if you're a fan of a good ol' fashion mob movie.

I bought this series on a whim. I’ve been watching Assassination Classroom and realized I enjoyed seeing high school kids learn to be assassins. That says more about me than I care to admit. Ummm…whatever I thought this series was gonna do was hilariously wrong. The end of vol. 1 shocked me, grossed me out, and now I will be reading vol 2 in the next few days….

Bottom line. I love it.
