I'm not to sure what I expected from this. I was worried it would be Harry Potter for assassins, I guess.
It wasn't. Not even close.
This comic is gritty, hard hitting and doesn't make any excuses for what it has to say. How far will a person go to fit in?
Apparently pretty far.
This first trade was packed full of some especially awesome artwork - and it fits spectacularly well with Remender's writing. The cast of characters are real people with real issues with real history...it just so happens that we are introduced to them on an LSD fueled road trip of vengeance to Vegas that cyclones into a bloody ending. Okay, so maybe not that real. At least not for most of us.
But it sure makes for a heck of a lot of fun reading.
September now feels so very far away...
Picked this up for the new TV show but it’s a big ol NO with the homophobia, misogyny, etc. cool concept, good art. Bad execution. Bummer.
Rick Remender took something awesome and made it human. What if teens were in a high school for assassins? They'd act like teenagers, of course. Teenagers who can actually kill each other when a fight breaks out, but teenagers nonetheless. Awesome. Can't wait for a sequel. Art was great too.
I enjoyed this, it was fast paced and I even liked how not everything was overly explained. Just enough that you knew what you had to for things to make sense. The acid trip was far out, I could only imagine what it would be like to be tripping balls on the strip of Vegas. Very nicely illustrated, a feast for the eyes.

Cool, but not enough. I've never been a huge fan of graphic novels, mainly because I'm a fast reader and when (and I mean, often) spend my money on something to read I want something that can keep me interested for hours. However I've made a few exceptions and I decided to give some of them a try, starting with Sandman last year. Now I get that I shouldn't have started with Sandman because I kept comparing it to Deadly Class, even if they have nothing in common, and well, Deadly Class can't compare. It's not possible. That doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy it, because I did, but there was something missing. I truly enjoyed the concept and it was quite enternaining but, maybe because it's the first volume, it wasn't as exciting as I expected. I'll read the second volume when it comes out and then see if the story becomes as interesting as it could be.

Not quite sure what to make of this yet. I'm on the fence as to whether I would like to continue with it. Wasn't a huge fan of the illustrations. The story line was intriguing and certainly has potential to develop into something that might interest me more. A lot of questions are raised about morality here. What does it mean to kill someone? Can you live with the consequences?
What a cool (and deadly) premise! I'm not the greatest fan of the drawing style but can't deny that it fits perfecty the story and the colours are amazing! A nice intro to the series, I will continue for sure!
