Compelling narrative about the struggles of a Nigerian woman who through being overly trusting becomes a sexual assault victim/survivor. The author weaves together multiple narrators to create a rich texture of Nigerian life.

At first, i found Nani’s character challenging because of her stubbornness and fear for her mother. However, i slowly warmed to her when i realised how fear, mental and emotional abuse can cripple someone. I loved the character development.

March book for Book Voyage (Africa) challenge. It was advertised as a modern retelling of the Hades/Persephone story, which I feel was not accurate. It was a well told story, with many hard to read parts.

Nani is such a relatable character, always at the mercy of what is expected of her. I loved this exploration of grief and the lengths a woman will go to for love.
