This was an interesting book. You get thrown into the world and feel so much confusion which really mimics the Kai's confusion at the start. I liked the characters though they all felt underdeveloped outside of Kai, the POV.
I really enjoyed the world and atmosphere but, I found the worldbuilding confusing. The whole book read like being dumped into am existing series. There was also instances where more exposition would have been nice but instead we were left with questions on how things work. I felt intrigued but constantly confused and left wanting more.
The mystery solving was interesting and I enjoyed the bounce between of past and present. I do feel that it moved weirdly slow despite the plot moving along well. I never felt incredibly invested. This book feels like an almost.

It’s been a while since I read an epic fantasy, and this one did not disappoint. It was interesting jumping back and forth in time from where Kai is trying to solve why he was assassinated, alongside throwbacks to his journey figuring out his current set of powers.

I will absolutely come back to this but I was in such a slump when I started and it was easier to read digitally at work than physically at home.
