The author was trying too hard to be funny. Still a good book and I enjoyed it. I just don’t think it’s as funny as she was hoping it would be.

I really really enjoyed this book. I have never heard of this kind of story before - a crime, but also Bridgerton vibes 😆
The beginning was a bit slow, that's why I only give it 4,25 stars. I don't know if felt like fhe first third of the book was just to build up the plot and I'm not sure everything was necessary for the story.
But otherwise I really liked it - once the murderer happened I couldn't stop. There were also some funny parts, which made me like it even more.

Jane Austen and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had a baby...
If you are a fan of Jane Austen, you will enjoy all the easter eggs in this one. Or so I'm told, I only caught a few because I'm not widely read on Austen. This is a low-stakes, fun to read, palate cleanser type of book. I laughed out loud multiple times, especially when they talked about Mary. I was also intrigued by the mystery plot. The entire thing definitely kept me engaged and was just delightful.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for something a little cozy and on the lighter side. It was a wonderful option as an audiobook since you didn't have to be so zoned in to enjoy it. I loved being able to listen to it and do chores at the same time.

Took a long time for me to get into this. A lot of characters introduced to the start and had a hard time following all of the details until things started to get exciting.

In a rigid English town obsessed with manners, unconventional Beatrice Steele hides her love of true crime to protect her family's social standing. But when a wealthy bachelor drops dead at a ball, she’s thrust into the role of an amateur detective. Trapped in the manor with a killer and an enigmatic detective, Beatrice must abandon propriety to uncover the truth. With wit, chaos, and danger at every turn, she races to solve the mystery before anyone else dies.
A fun little mystery read with great tongue-in-cheek humor!
