I don't think I was in the right headspace for this book.
It's light, fluffy, and absolutely ridiculous. At times it felt like the silly dial had been cranked up a few notches too far, and there were so many reveals that the mystery got lost. There was so much going on.
If you're not in the mood to watch Monty Python, maybe don't pick this one up. But if that's your vibe, read on my friend. It's a wild ride.

I don't know what I expected going into this but I wasn't expecting this. The fusion of cozy mystery with historical fiction was interesting, and fun. The whimsical/nonsensical pieces almost turned me off in the first chapter, but the story pulled me in after a couple more. It was good, the murder/mystery aspect was well done and kept me guessing until the very end. The characters were good but I didn't connect with any of them.

The story follows Beatrice, a woman OBSESSED with true crime (like every mellanial woman), as her and her family go to a ball at a fancy family estate. The hosts son is a close friend of Beatrice and he invited the seasons eligible bachelor, Mr. Croaksworth and his guest, Inspector Drake. While Mr. Croaksworth is dancing with Beatrice's beautiful sister, well.. He croaks! From poisoning! Beatrice then gets to help Mr. Drake solve his murder!
The ending does get to be a bit too much, there was a ridiculous amount of twists and turns.
Overall, the book was fun, cute and a quick read. I really enjoyed it.
