It was a fun book but a bit too much to suspend that it took away from my enjoyment.

Thanks to NetGalley and Random House for the ARC. It hasn't affected the contents of my review.

This was incredibly, incredibly goofy, but still smart, and I enjoyed it very much. I had a little bit of a hard time getting through it in a timely fashion because it was an e-book, but that's a me issue and not the book's fault. If you like well-done parodies and tongue in cheek silliness, this book might be for you. Don't complain about the silliness if you choose to pick it up, it's all-encompassing.

I ordered this book after I saw that it was a People magazine "Book of the Week". It is a cozy mystery set in the late 18th century. According to the author's note, "This book combines a few of my favor things: mayhem, manners, and murder (solving it, not committing it, of course)." It follows Beatrice Steele who secretly loves true crime (she would be banished from society if anyone found out), as she attempts to solve the sudden murder of a wealthy bachelor. It has hints of Bridgerton, Jane Austen, and Agatha Christie. It's fun, unique, totally PG-rated, and I laughed out loud at times, but it lost it's charm for me, about 3/4 of the way through.
