Julia Seales serves up an enjoyable mix of Austen-esque charm and classic mystery vibes in this read. The middle bit especially hits the sweet spot, channeling 'Knives Out' with a generous dash of 'Pride and Prejudice'.

But let’s talk about Beatrice and Drake—they're the real stars here. Individually, they're “ok” characters, but when they team up, magic happens. You can't help but cheer them on as they crack the case and start to fall for each other.

4/5 stars (rounded up from 3.7)

This book was delightful. If you are a fan of old school detective duos and silly, tongue-in-cheek humor, this is a must read. A most agreeable book!

Probably a 3.5. Cozy murder mystery. Got a little lost in the characters.

Beatrice Steele is a lady. However, if anyone knew how she spent her free time, her reputation would be ruined.
Beatrice loves murder. Well, not murder, but justice and solving murders. She dreams of being an Inspector like the ones she reads about.
Little does she know, her skills might just be put to the test in real life.

I had a fun time with this one. The characters all have their weird and humorous little quirks.
It's very hard to solve a murder when everyone is guilty of something.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for an e-arc.

3.5 ⭐️ Light, quick and easy read, but also entertaining. The characters are absurd in the best way, and I enjoyed the random details that had nothing to do with anything - random, dry humor is my love language.
