I thoroughly enjoyed the first half to 3/4 of this book. It kept me on my toes. But the last chunk kind of fell flat. I also was really bothered by how neurodivergence was portrayed so negatively, specifically ADHD and autism.

I personally found this book difficult to read, through no fault with the author, as it deals with a missing child. While this storyline used to be one of my favourites, I am learning that I find the subject much harder now that I myself am a mother. That said, I found the mother, Erin, to have a realistic reaction to the story as it unfolded and could connect with her and this brought the story into much more vivid detail than expected.

Lapena writes this story from multiple points of view, and each one is different enough from another that you don't need to be told when we are switching perspective. This is such a huge talent and I was rather impressed. While I could see some of the twists and turns coming, several truly took me by surprise and overall it was  a heart pounding story that kept me turning pages long after my bedtime. I would love to say more and chat about the book, but I don't want to accidentally spoil anything so I will end the review here, but if you have read it I would love to hear your thoughts as well.
