Hard one to rate. Excellent writing and atmosphere, but difficult to read because of the topic, and the fact it is somewhat based on the author's life.

All respect to the youtuber exposing more people to this work, but he isnt how I found it. I picked it up on a complete whim today while taking refuge in a local coop bookstore from a thunderstorm.
I think calling it the most disturbing book of all time doesn't really do it justice. I would instead actually call it relatable. It was a 243 page gut punch that made me think about my past, and the people i've known and lost. The collective trauma some of us have lived through is in line with the earnesty mused here. Ive known people who have gone through the systems of abuse like the ones dreamt up in this book over and over, and ended their own lives just like the author did. She was definitely processing a lot of trauma when she wrote this. RIP

"That's the thing you've probably always wanted. Someone's undivided attention. And you've wanted it so much and for so long that the form it takes no longer matters."
"It wasn't until then I realized I hadn't said any of it. [...] I was pretty sure of that. Well, not entirely, but pretty close to certain."
"Little by little she began to taunt me, to poke at the silence that had become my lone weapon."
"I let her do what she needed. I let her wear herself out on me, and wear me out."
