Well done! Very classic golden age sort of mystery. Even a little side dish of a love story. Miss Silver is much like Miss Marple, of course, but with a bit of her own style and gumption. The first I’ve read of this series, but will definitely look for more.

I enjoyed this one - a retired actress comes to see Miss Silver because she thinks she might be the target of a murder attempt, and then talks herself out of the fancy as she describes it to Miss Silver, But then an old friend is murdered while wearing the actress's distinctive coat, and she calls Miss Silver. Some very attractive minor characters, and a fair number of non-attractive characters as well.
A story that bears a good deal of resemblance to other Miss Silver books, but none the less enjoyable for that.
The character Ninian is TERRIBLE and controlling and psycho, so it's hard to be excited about the main character falling in love with him. He is so terrible it's hard to enjoy the mystery. His awfulness is beyond what you would expect even for a different generation (when this was written in 1953)
