If you're a fan of beastars this is also a good read. Apparently, these were made before beastars so it is a series of short stories~ I liked a lot of these and I enjoyed seeing these early ideas and world building develop.

I read this after reading the first volume of Beastars for the first time, and though it's hard to compare a series of short comics to the set-up of a longer one, I think I preferred the short format. It's nice to have the world fleshed out a little more, and I thought all of the stories were well written, drawn, and plotted out. It's hard for me to pick a favorite, but "the Crocodile and the Gazelle" was a standout for me.

Where it all began the manga before Beastars. You can really see the evolution in art style and story telling when you compare this work with Beastars. But how interesting to know the world the mangaka made for Beastars already existed for quite a while, even before Zootopia for example. I'm glad she stuck with her story and ideas!

I'm not usually a fan of reviewing a collection of short stories. I loved some of the stories and thought others were okay. There were some of the stories in this collection that I wanted to continue reading, but alas they ended.

The art style at the beginning was a little harsh. But Itagaki pointed out at the end that these were early stories. Her art got way better towards the last couple of stories.

My limited thoughts are the same did the following two volumes, loved some, liked some, thought others were okay.
